Fulldome technology is a technique used to create immersive experiences through projection inside a dome, displaying impactful visuals. This type of projection is commonly used in planetariums, interactives museums and venues with digital domes, and during special events.
The events that can be created with Fulldome technology are quite varied, offering a unique experience for attendees. At Dessignare Studio, we have completed a variety of Fulldome projects and also offer training for professionals interested in creating content for planetariums and digital domes.
Below are some ideas to inspire you:
- Astronomy Shows
- Educational Videos about Astronomy: Projections of stars, planets, constellations, and other topics related to the study of the universe. Planetariums often show films that recreate historical celestial events. Undoubtedly, space exploration is one of the most visited topics in the “fulldome” format. The ability to travel through time and space, visiting planets, stars, and galaxies from the comfort of a dome, is at the top of the Fulldome experience list. This inspired the creation of our animated series Cosmonaute 360, which is linked to discussions on the topic.
- Immersive Movies
- 360° Cinema and Immersive Documentaries: Projections of films or documentaries specifically designed to be viewed in 360 degrees. These are mostly scientific and educational films, but there are also entertainment works with action and animation. Our film Mission: Rescue falls into this category, an educational entertainment piece.
- Immersive Musical Shows
- Concerts with Enveloping Visuals: From symphonic experiences to electronic music with live DJs, music accompanied by visuals that synchronize with the rhythm and melody provides a full sensory experience. Our Tree of Life – Music Show was presented in Taiwan, a performance with instrumental rock music inspired by Mexican culture.
- Digital Art and Interactive Experiences
- Interactive Virtual Reality Art: Artists can create digital art installations that are displayed in Fulldome domes, offering a fully immersive experience for the viewer. Some Fulldome experiences allow audience interaction with projected content, such as games or 3D interactive experiences.
- Virtual Tours: With 3D animation, architectural tours can be created or places can be recreated to generate an experience where attendees can “travel” to a place from the comfort of their seat.
- Conferences and Talks
- Presentations and Outreach Events: Professionals, scientists, or experts can give talks while graphics, diagrams, or visual representations are projected onto the dome, aiding in a deeper understanding of the topic. Conferences on subjects like biology, physics, or technology allow the audience to experience concepts in a visually impactful way, enhancing learning.
- Educational Events with Workshops and Interactive Activities
- Educational Workshops: Digital art workshops where participants can interact with Fulldome projections and learn to create or manipulate immersive content.
- Scientific Experiences on Natural Phenomena: Interactive exhibitions that show explanations of earthquakes, hurricanes, or volcanic eruptions, allowing for full immersion in the subject.
- High-Impact Entertainment and Advertising Events
- Light and Sound Shows: Entertainment events can be organized by blending lights, sounds, and projections to offer a unique sensory experience. Can you imagine a wedding or a press conference in a space full of color?
